General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi !
It appears from your history to be a case of tear of a ligament around the knee joint( anterior cruciate ligament). You need to consult an orthopaedic surgeon for x-rays and further management. In the meantime you can take aceclofenac 50 mg twice a day for pain relief.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
By your description of symptoms, I feel that you have the condition named CHONDROMALACIA PATELLAE. This implies softening of the articular cartilage of the patella (knee cap bone) & formation of fissures on the surface leading to roughness of the surface.
When this rough surface rubs against the smoother surface of femur (thigh bone), one can feel the cracking noise especially while bending the knee.
The initial treatment is always conservative -
* Avoid impact sports
* Keep your body weight at optimum
* Physiotherapy in the form of active quadriceps exercises
* Analgesic as and when necessary
* Avoid extreme bending of knee
Hope this information helps
