Pregnant. Diagnosed With Typhoid, High Fever, Headache, Back Pain, Vomiting. On Cefixime. Will It Affect Foetus?
Hello Sir/Madam, My wife is 14 week pregnant and has been diagnosed with Typhoid, she is suffering from high fever, head ache, back pain, vomiting and hard stomach due to which she is unable to eat properly further her weight is only 35 Kg. She has started with Cefixime, Kindly advice for her treatment and whether this will affect the foetus
Fever during first 4 to 14 weeks of pregnancy have adverse effects on the fetus. After 14 weeks, usually there will be no effects on fetus. Continue the medication as advised by her doctor and strictly use only prescribed medication. Be in regular follow up with her Gynecologist & Obstetrician to assess the mother and fetus well being. Rest, hydration, soft diet, and prescribed antibiotic is the mainstay of treatment in typhoid fever. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
