Pregnant And Noticed Brown Stuff On Belly Button. What Could This Be?

I am 40 weeks pregnant and have brown stuff in my belly button. It is an outie and just noticed it 2 days ago. It was not there before. Is this due to being pregnant. I have been taking a nightly bath for the last 2 weeks. Is it caused by the bath tub?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
During pregnancy usually pigmentation increases.
On abdomen dark line can appear extending from umbilicus to pubic symphysis.
This is called linea nigra.
With progression of pregnancy this may appear prominent.
This will become less prominent slowly after delivery.
Other possibility is fungal infection at the umbilical area.
While taking bath clean the umbilical area properly.
As usually umbilicus will be everted in advanced pregnancy, it is easy to clean.
You can apply cream containing Aloe Vera and vitamin E with your doctor's advice.
This helps in decreasing the pigmentation to some extent and makes easy to remove the collected stuff.
Take care.
