Pregnant Feeling Pressure In The Ear After Ear Infection. Need Relief

I took antiobiotics for an ear infection which cleared up the ear infection but now I m stuck with tremendous pressure in my left ear from the fluid that is in my ear and it s been almost 3 weeks already. I am pregnant so I can t take steroids and I can t take sudafed or mucinex d because it raises my blood pressure too high and I have panic attacks. I can t live with this pressure in my ear anymore and I m terrified of having my ear drum puncture as my doctor suggested. Isn t there anything else I can do to get relief?

Your previous infection was otitis media(middle ear infection) that has subsided on taking antibiotics. However, sterile fluid remaining in the middle ear is causing fullness & discomfort. Since you are pregnant & the usual medications (like pseudoephedrine, ibuprofen etc.,) cannot be given to you, the only safe option is to get your ear drum surgically punctured (Myringotomy, as your Dr suggested), with a ventillatory tube fixed to the ear drum. Do not be anxious. This tube will get ejected automatically when your condition improves. Surgical wound will heal eventually without leaving any residue. So please get Myringotomy done without further delay if the symptoms are unbearable. Otherwise symptoms are likely to worsen as pregnancy advances.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You had been taking antibiotics and infection has cleared.

I would suggest that your can take Cetrizine 10mg once a day and do steam inhalation twice a day for few days. This help opening your ET's and fluid will get cleared.

I hope this will help u, in case of query u can contact me.

Best wishes
