Pregnant, Fetus Has Skipping Heartbeat. Is This A Cause For Concern?

My daughter is 21 weeks and was told that the fetus had a heartbeat that was skipping beats. They are due to see a specialist next Monday. Is this a cause for concern? She has not had been told this before. He OB s son had to have a heart transplant at 2 years old and is a very good friend of ours. He is in surgery now.......or I would be calling him.........I m not sure if it is precautionary or not..........HELP!

It could indicate a congenital heart disease, such as a congenital anomaly, heart block etc.
THe baby might require cardiac surgery / pacemaker after birth.
It is important to have a complete anomaly scan , with focus on the cardiac system.
The anomaly would be picked up by a cardiac scan and 2D echo.
Please have it done by a specialist.
Detailed evaluation of the other body systems should be done, as abnormalities might coexist.
