My wife has damaged her eardrum accidentally and she is pregnant.
We consulted a doctor who said eardrum damage should get cured normally with in 3-4 weeks..

is this true..
he said if the cure is not natural then may have to perform a surgery..
my question is how safe is it perform this kind of surgery in case of pregnancy ?

Awaiting for your reply

Hello

Thanks for consulting H.C.M.

I read your query regarding accidental damage of ear drum of your wife, She is an expecting lady.

As you said your wife had been examined by your doctor, and I am agree with the advice of your doctor, as ear drum has tremendous power of regeneration or healing and in such cases only protection of ear from infection is the prime requarement.

So you please wait for two to three weeks ,which is the duration of spontaneous healing and during this period following things are important.-

(a) Plug the ear canal with cotton- just to protect from dust.

(b) Don't put any ear drop or oil or water- Try to keep the ear dry.

(c) If she feels itching in ear than please don't put any stick etc in the ear.

(d) Avoid nasal infection as cold etc, if she develop cold than take proper care as steam inhalation.

I hope it will heal by itself. but if anyhow coservative method fails than surgery is only choice, now a days this is performed under local anaesthesia and in a day care clinic. this may be performed in pregnant patient without any risk by expert ENT doctor.

I hope your query is answered.

Regards.
