Hi, thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.

Clomid (Clomiphene) is given to induce the ovulation to release the egg from the ovum. Duphaston is Dydrogesterone. During pregnancy, progesterone is essential for implantation (attachment) of fertilized ovum in to the uterus.

The level of progesterone is high in luteal phase ie., after ovulation (14 th day onwards). Duphaston is given in women who are suspected to have progesterone deficiency during luteal phase to help in implantation.

It is not given for every pregnancy but only in women with the history of repeated miscarriages due to deficiency of progesterone in luteal phase. Probably your treating Dr suspected progesterone deficiency during your luteal phase and that's why she has given it between 14 th to 24 th day.

Yes, Duphaston is used for irregular period and also to prevent miscarriages or spontaneous abortion. However, it does not help in conception but only to continue pregnancy. Continuous use of Duphaston after conception is not advisable as it may cause birth defects and other problems in fetus.

I hope this is helpful to you.
