Prescribed RA Medications Inhibiting Bone Growth, Increased VitD Dosage To Assist Calcium Balance. Right Treatment ?
Hello Doctor, I am researching the possibility of my prescribed RA medications (Leflunomide and Methotrexate) inhibiting bone growth. My Femur fractured 2 yrs ago and after 2 recovery plan revisions (the last operation March 2013), it is now being called a "Delayed Union" but plans are in mind for a 3rd plan and operation. Being from and residing in Canada, I have recently increased my supplemental Vitamin D dosage from 1500 to over 4000 mg to assist my calcium balance system. I am also taking Calcium, Vitamin C and folic acid, Thank you AAAA
Hi and thanks for the query, Management of rheumatoid arthritis is a long term treatment. response at times is very patient dependent and it might be difficult to predict outcome based on a particular protocol. However, considering the indications of the drugs prescribed in your case, I do believe the science behind it is ok. I however pray you be compliant to treatment and appointments, and do not fail to signal any unusual symptoms you experience along the line as you take the drugs. Kind regards
