Prescribed Clonidine For High BP And Being Treated For AFIB. Also Had Heart Valve Replacement. Why Do I Have Headaches?

My doctor gave me a prescription for high blood pressure 2 days ago, clonidine HCL 0.1 MG. I took one yesterday and the day before. My blood pressure did not decrease much and I had a very dry mouth. I also had a terrible headache and was irritable. Is there a comparable drug to replace this one. I am treated for Afib and have had a heart valve replacement. Thank you

Hi,

Having very dry mouth, headache are related to Clonidine use. So, you can report these side effects to your cardiologist to change therapy.

Other treatment options could be methyldopa, but should consult your cardiologist first.
Do not try to stop clonidine immediately to avoid severe effects; your doctor will give exact instructions on how to stop it.

All the best!
