Previously Had Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Having Muscle Aches Even During Summer. No Help From Co-codamol. Root Cause?
My mother is 75 years old and has previously had polymyalgia rheumatica. Usually, in the warmer weather she finds it is not so bad however, this year, even with a nice warm summer, she hasn't had any relief at at all. She has just undergone tests to see if it has returned as her muscle aches are worse than ever although the blood tests say that PR is not present. She is currently taking co-codamol which is offering no relief either and her doctor has just increased the dose which she is concerned about - any thoughts on what could be the root cause of her debilitating, continual muscle aches?
Corticosteroids forms the mainstay of treatment in the management of Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). A daily dose of 10-20mg of prednisone is generally needed to provide relief of symptoms and the dosage has to be tapered once the symptoms subside, which will be decided by the treating physician.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
