Prolapsed Disc. Had Cortisone Injection. Is This An Infection?

Hello,

I have recently been told by my physio that my L5 prolapse disc that has been the same for over 3 years could be an infection? I am to take antibiotics for 3 months! Is this something you have heard of?

I have no leg pain just lower back ache that has moved from the right side to the left a few weeks after I had a cortisone injection!

Many thanks,

Kim.

Radiologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Before stamping it to be infective, it has to be confirmed.
It can be confirmed by clinical examination, history and investigations.
Choice of investigation is MRI with contrast study.
It can't be stated as such by physiotherapist.
During MRI it can be decided that contrast is needed or not depending upon pathology.
Better you take opinion of neurologist.
Get well soon.

Take Care
