Prolonged UTI, Taking Antibiotics, Culture Showed Agalactiae. Why Is It Taking Time To Clear Up?
My 83 year old mother has been dealing with a UTI for over 2 months now and has been on antibiotics . We just found out today that the culture came back stating Agalactiae, as the know problem. My question is, Why has a 1.5 month course of antibiotics not cured this problem and is there a specialist that she should be going to?
S. agalactiae is a normal resident of the vagina. So it represents contamination rather than true UTI.
The collection of urine should be done better. The bottle to be kept away from the skin, the area cleaned before passing urine and collection of midstream urine.
If done this way, the report can be relied upon and treatment given.
Hope this helps.
