Pros And Cons Of Doing Half A Knee Replacement Surgery For Presence Of Bone On Bone In Half Knee With Cartilage In The Other Half?

This is for an orthopedic surgeon. I need knee replacement surgery, as I have bone on bone on half my knee, but still have cartilage on the other half. My question is : is it a good idea to do only half a knee replacement if the doctor said I was a candidate for that as an option. Are their benefits? Are their downsides? Myrna weiner

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Doing only half the knee replacenent can need surgery for the second half in next 2-3 years. The rest of the cartilage will also undergo degenerative changes eventually.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
