Purple, Puss And Blood Filled Cyst On Breast, Recurring. Applying Neosporin, Sterilizing With Alcohol. Reason?
Hi, I have a purple, puss and blood filled cyst on my breast. This is the 4th one I've gotten in the past 6 months. They show up as a hard, purple, bruise colored lump, and about 2 to 3 weeks later they begin to get bigger and not as hard. They are a little sore if pressure is applied. By the 4th week there is puss oozing from it. At that time I will squeeze it until the blood runs clear of puss, sterilize it with alcohol, put some neosporin on it and a band-aid and it goes away about 2 to 3 weeks later. Any idea what these could be?
Hi, Thanks for the query. There is possibility of breast abscess. It is more common in lactating women. When the lobules of the breast get infected that can lead to abscess formation. As you are having repeated abscess formation, better to get examined once. Consult gynecologist or general surgeon once and get examined. If she recommends go for sonomammogram and blood sugar levels estimation. If no abnormality is detected in sonomammogram, draining the pus by incision and drainage under antibiotic cover may sufficient. While letting out the pus all loculi to be broken otherwise that can lead to recurrent pus accumulation. If blood sugar levels are elevated, you need to get treated for that. Take care.
