Purple Rash On Calf, Itching After Eating Clam. Should I Apply Something?
I'm very sure I ate a bad clam or two last night at this time. Within one hour, I developed a large (2" diameter) deep red-purple rash on the back of one calf. There was no pain, no nausea, no fever, just a mild itch. I did not scratch it, but it blistered in the middle. Now it's been drying. Still not itchy. Should I apply something to it?
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. To treat the affected area, apply a steroid antibiotic cream twice in a day and take oral antihistamine like cetirizine. Do not try to remove the scab, it will fall off on its own in few days. These lesions may or may not be food induced. Other causes could be drug rash or any insect bite. Hope this helped. Take care
