R Side Flank And Back Pain, Cough, Osteoporosis, Urine Clear. Using Hot Packs And Regular Panadol. Remedy?

I have R side flank and back pain.Thought it was muscle spasm(previous double discectomy 11 years ago.)Had 2 sessions of Microwave therapy which usually clears it up but not this time.Using hot packs and vibrator with limited relief and regular panadol.Urine clear no burning or probs voiding. Was wondering if it could be kidney infection which I have never had before.I have had a cough mostly non productive with no fever.Have had Osteoporosis for may years for which I am taking Caltrate Plus.Normal BP usually 110/60.No other medical history.Am an RN working full-time in a very busy Surgical ward. Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Typically, presence of flank pain is indicative of a Renal problem unless proved otherwise.

Other causes like spine problems, liver & gall bladder diseases or a muscle spasm etc will also produce flank pain

You need an ultrasound abdomen to rule out the renal causes as well as other intra abdominal issues.

Temporary relief can be achieved by analgesic medications.

Consult a general surgeon for an evaluation and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
