RN, On Wellbutrin, Drug Test Showed Amphetamines. Could This Be False Positive ?

Hi. I'm an RN. Recently took a drug test at work and a medical review Dr called me to ask what meds I'm taking because it showed amphetamines. This is impossible because I only take wellbutrin Sr 150 mg twice daily. However, I did some research online and found that wellbutrin, in fact, May cause false positives. Help, I'm so upset and hoping u can answer if this is true.

I am sorry to hear of these troubling thoughts that you are having right now.

This is for sure a false positive. As an RN and being so sure that you are not abusing any amphetamines, taking only wellbutrin and having such a result on drug testing can only be a false positive caused by this drug.

ore to that wellbutrin has been noted to give false positive for amphetamines on drug testing. So please, don't get too worried about this. This publication on pubmed will be very helpful to you. Frequency of false positive amphetamine screens due to bupropion using the Syva EMIT II immunoassay.
