Radiating Pain In Thigh, Swollen Knee, Pain In Right Toe. Blood Test Showed High Uric Acid. Diagnosed Gouty Arthritis. Will Disciplined Diet Help?
I am diagnosed with Gouty arthritis. (29yrs old male, married, teetotaler). High uric acid in blood test 7.4mg/dl. I experience radiating pains in thigh rarely, had a swelled up knee twice(in the early morning). I experience right thumb toe pain often. I am an ardent non-vegetarian, but was advised to become a vegetarian and drink lots of water. Is this a persistent disease, will I be able to come out of this disease with a disciplined diet. Can you also please advise me with food items that I need to avoid strictly and other do's don'ts
This is a metabolic disease with uric acid levels being raised.Hydration, diet restrictions are important.Limiting the purines which occur naturally in many foods will help keep the uric acid levels low.You should avoid or restrict poultry, fish and red meat, these should be kept at around 4-6oz/day.Restrict or avoid fatty foods and high fructose corn syrup or sweetened beverages.A raised intake of whole grain and complex carbohydrates will help, reducing refined foods is essential. You definitely need a high intake of fluids ,especially water .
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. The reference value of uric acid inn men is as 2.5-8.0 mg/dL. In that sense the upper limit is there. In my opinion lemon juice of two lemons ( mid size) on empty stomach for at least 6-12 months will reduce you uric acid level as desired by you. I have tried over my so many patients fro last 30 years. Almond helps , while cashew nut not allowed. Good luck. Dr. HET
