Rash Over Feet Spreading To Palms, Legs. Taking Antibiotics For Tonsillitis. History Of Foot And Mouth Disease. Reason?

My child developed a rash over his feet yesterday evening. This afternoon, I noticed that it is now over the palms of his hands and it is spreading up his legs. He has no fever, but is completing a course of antibiotics for tonsillitis (which he just completed). He will be off to the doctors first thing in the morning. Does this sound like foot and mouth? He had it about 1 year ago with blisters in his mouth. Can children get it more than once?

Hi,

You are right..there is possibility of hand, foot and mouth disease.

It is a viral infection caused by coxsackie virus A 16.

It is mostly occuring in children.

There may be erythematous vesicular eruptions on hand and foot with mild itching and burning.

There may be fever.

Ulcers in mouth may occur.

Antiviral acyclovir tablets may be given in proper dose.

Antipyretic and antihistaminics may be given.

Silver sulfadiazine cream may be applied.

The disease is self limiting and may be aborted in 2 to 3 weeks.

However, it may recur.

I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
