Kid, Having Frequent Headache, Sores In Mouth, Throat, Difficulty In Eating, Rash On Legs. Is This Due To Tonsillitis?

Hi my 6 years old daughter has been complaining of frequent headaches, stomach pain, and has sores in mouth, throat, tongue. Struggling to eat due to pain. Took her to doctor 3 days ago and told its tonsillitis and was given anti biotic treatment. I have notice rash rough in her legs and feet. Not sure now if this is due to tonsillitis ?

Hello,
Your daughter has been diagnosed with tonsillitis and prescribed antibiotics for the same. She is now having rash also. This rash could be due to an allergic reaction of the medicine or the manifestation of a viral illness. The entire presentation of sore throat, headache, stomach pain and rash seems more consistent with a diagnosis of viral infection. I advice you to revisit your doctor so that he can have a look at the rash. In case of an allergic reaction the medicine has to be stopped.

If she is not able to eat because of the ulcers you can use a local gel like zytee gel and give her a multivitamin syrup. Also warm saline gargles can help in the throat pain. For the headaches you can use a painkiller like paracetamol.

Hope that helps.
Wishing you good luck.

Regards,
Dr.Preeti
