Reason For Pain Under Ribs Despite Taking Tums And Zantac?
I am having contraction like pain under my ribs and am not pregnant. I had my gallbladder removed almost three years ago and the pain is very similar. The pain has been constant for 3 days now, nothing seems to help. It is keeping me up at night but I wouldn't say its worse at night. I have tried Tums, and Zantac but neither have alleviated any pain. What could this be?
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your doctor, I would advise you for an ultrasound abdomen, some routine blood test including serum amylase and lipase, LFT, and a CT scan abdome if need be depending on the reports. If all are normal, I would not hesitate to refer you to a gastro enterologist for a possible endoscopic examination. Till that I would advise you to continue with a proton pump inhibitor drug, along with a probiotic drug. Further management would depend on the investigation reports.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in solving this problem. Thanks for using the healthcare magic forum for your health query. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
