Regular Stools, Yellow Mucus Surrounding Stools, Abdominal Pain. Serious Symptoms?

My friend is a 20 year old male and he says he has been having regular bowel movements but he noticed that there was a yellow mucus surrounding the stool . He said he had abdominal pain a couple days ago that felt like he had been hit with a bat in the lower abdomin. He is worried about what this may be. I wanted to kno what is going on and is this serious.
