Retinal Reattachment Surgery Query

I am looking for an answer about retinal reattachment surgery. Would a person actually lose their eye, if they elected not to have the surgery if there was no hope of restoring their vision ? Would the eye actually have to be removed ?

Hi.. Retinal detachment has to be fixed by surgical procedures alone.. There are various forms of surgeries including open surgeries and laser techniques.. The amount of vision lost will depend on the amount and area of retina that is detached.. for example if the macular area is not detached and if no surgery is performed, vision may be fair, but not completely normal.. However the surgeries may improve the quality of vision.. The surgery does not involve the removal of eye ball..

in cases of retinal detachment if the patient refuses to have surgery then after 3 months there is usually no hope of recovery of vision. usually in unoperated cases there is no further problem.but in few eyes there can be further complications.
