Ruptured Ear Drum And Blood Clot. Taken Pretnizone, Sudafed And Zpack. Danger In Flying?
I ruptured my eardrum and a blood clot formed behind it. I am a flight attendant and have been grounded until my body absorbs the clot. I have taken 3 days of 40mg of pretnizone, sudafed, and Zpack. Is there anything else I can do to speed this process up to get me back to flying. Is it really that dangerous for me to go back to flying before the pressure is relieved?
A clot behind a ruptured tympanic membrane usually gets absorbed on its own in about 6 weeks. Precautions are - keep the ear dry and do not blow the nose. Usually it is the fluid collection behind an intact membrane which is common in flight attendants which may need drainage and placement of tubes in ear drum. Clot behind a ruptured membrane can be sucked out under microscope by ENT and patching of ruptured area can also be done. So, consult an ENT. Regards
