Hi Doc, I am a 60-year-old male fighting recurrent urinary tract infections since undergoing first radical surgery then hormomala therapy and finally raditaion therapy for prostate cancer. I have used Zanocin 400 under my doctor s advice. It appears that the medicine isn t working anymore. Maybe overuse has led to drug resistence. Can I try it one more time, and if yes, in what dosage and for how many days? Regards, Roy Calcutta
Hello Thanks for query. You have UTI following radical surgery for cancer of the prostate and have been taking antibiotics since long time with unsatisfactory results .
Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to so that you can take appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.
In the mean while you can take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.
Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.
Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.
