Severe Cough With Cold, Migrating Pain In Back Under Ribcage To Waistline With Popping Sound While Coughing. Help

I have a cough from a cold where i cough really hard. I was coughing & got a really hard pain in my back right side just under mynrib cage. A little later i was coughing & i heard and felt a 'pop' that hurt so badly inthought i was going to pass out. Then the pain migrated around my side to the front right at about my waistline. Now when i cough it also hurts extremely bad there. What can i do? Thank you

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The popping sound that you are hearing during coughing could be due to a muscle sprain or a rib fracture caused by the extensive coughing. This can be diagnosed after a direct physical examination.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
