Severe Itching. Suffering From Eczema. Having Corticosteriods, Atarax, No Improvement. Treatment?
My son has what is believed to be severe eczema. He's been on atarax for several months 1 1/2 tsp every 6 hrs. he is 4 as of yesterday. Weighs 31 lbs. I have added zantac 75 mg 2 times a day. We saw marked improvement. The skin is healing but the intense itch persists. What do you recommend? We've tried prednisone, as soon as he was off it came back worse. Been on corticosteroids with no improvement.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. In my opinion & practical life I will never prescribe steroids in eczema , due to its side effects . In short term therapy and in emergency we can use steroids( and meant for that only). As you have stated that it worsen the condition. In my opinion , you should consult one more dermatologist and get his opinion. One diagnosis may differ with another. Good luck. Dr. HET
