Severe Pain. Major Car Accident, X-ray Normal. Reason?
I had a major car accident four weeks ago, and had all the necessary x-ray done, the outcome is good no broken bones, but from the accident I am experiencing this nasty pain everyday, and even though I have been taking a high dose of pain killer still does not go, so if you can tell me what it might be, cause i am sick of going back to my GP and always get the same answer; it will go away
Its a good thing that your x-rays did not show any fracture. However, fractures are not the only injury that one can sustained following a road traffic accident.
Other injuries include contusion of body parts, stain of ligaments or tendons etc all of which could cause local inflammation that require a couple of days or weeks to resolve.
Most importantly, you should have a rest and avoid straining the body parts that are affected so the inflammation should reduce. The pain you felt should be of decreasing intensity if not it will imply there is an underlying severe condition such as non diagnosed fracture, or tendon rupture etc and you will need to be re-examined.
There are just two things you need provided there are no underlying problems; rest and pain killers. However, the choice of pain killers matters depending on the severity of your pains and if you have ulcer disease.
Hope this helps you Best regards Dr Achuo

General & Family Physician, Dr. H S Tak's Response
Hello sir, You had major car accident four weeks ago, now you are having pain all over or at some particular place or zone of your body, what is your orthopedic surgeons opinion as you wrote that consultants told you that it will be cured , it means you may be feeling pain due to some muscle pull or sprain possibly or panic due to your car accident. So my advise for you to take some analgesic with muscle relaxant i.e. combination of Diclofenac sod.+ Chlorzoxazone with local application of diclofenac gel and along with you take tab. alprazolam 0.25 daily for few days . By this suggestion, I hope you will be cured and will be better.Good Luck and take care.
