Two weeks ago I fell off a step at night. i am just now healing from bilateral retinal tears and had lost sight of my position on the deck. I ended up falling upon the rim of a large potted planter. The pain has been severe. but I have not seen a doctor. How long will this pain last? I haven't taken anything for the pain but it is so painful. Thank you . Maggi

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain that you are having could be due to a soft tissue injury or a bone fracture. Since the pain is severe, you need to get an X-ray done so that exact diagnosis can be made.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

You have not specified the area or part of the body having pain.

Propably, you may sustained a soft tissue contusion. Please follow the below mentioned steps to alleviate your pain -

* Rest to the injured part and don’t involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Use elastic compression bandage around the swollen area
* Elevation of the limb
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications

If you don'f find any symptom relief, then you may need to consult your treating physician for necessary investigations and treatment.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
