Severe Pain Due To Sprained Ankle. Possibility Of Torn Ligaments?

Yesterday I was walking down a set of stairs at a hotel I was staying at. My ankle completely went on its side & I heard 2 extremely loud cracks. I fell down in complete pain. My ankle hurts so bad & this brace isn t helping. The doctor said I sprained my ankle really bad & I possibly ripped some ligaments. I want a cast. Can you help me?

Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.

Your sprained ankle needs the principle of RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation ).

I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed clinical examination of ankle. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance to rule out any fracture.

According to severity of sprain your doctor might immobilise your ankle by giving the cast. If it is grade 3 sprain , you might need surgical repair.

Wishing you good health.
Regards
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
