Severe Pain In Middle Of Chest. Why Does It Happen? Exercise Will Help?

I experience short but very severe pain in middle of the chest , only lasting a few seconds. Sometimes this happens once or twice a day, but not every day. Sometime while asleep (wakes me up because of it)and other times during the day. We have checked everything and Doctors and Radiologist can find no reason for said pain. I am 67 year female, exercise regularly, no other illness , weight normal, non-smoker.

Dear Heiriw, hello
Thanks for writing in.
Central chest pain can be due to incresed acidity in the stomach in addition to cardiac cause.
To rule out cardiac cause, have ECG and blood test done.
To prevent increase in acidity, take following precautions:-
1. Avoid remaining empty stomach
2. Avoid spicy and oily foods
3. Avoid stress / smoking / alcohol if any
4. Avoid taking Pain killers and oral steroids
5. Drink plenty of water.
Hope this is of help to you.
Thanks.
