Severed Nerve And Artery On The Hand Due To An Injury. How Can I Change The Dressing At Home?

I cut my palm with shattered glass by accident. The cut is about 2 cm in length (seemed pretty deep), located right beneath by index finger (on my palm). The ER doctor repaired by severed nerve and artery and instructed me to redress the wound every 2 days. Is there anyways that I can change the dressing myself instead of making a trip to the hospital every 2 day? What materials would I need (ie, hydrogen peroxide, iodine)?
The doctor said there shouldn't be any long term side effects but I still feel numbness and loss of sensation on the lateral side of the top half of my index finger? How long does it take fore the nerve to regenerate? How long will it take for me to regain normal sensation?
The doctor prescribed me cephalosphorin 0.1g tablet, instructing me to take 2 tablets, 3 times a day after meals. However the instruction in the box says adult does is 0.1g x 3 times a day. So will taking 0.2g 3 times a day too much for me? Please help! Thank you!
