Shall I Stop Taking Tramadol And Citalopram?

Hi, I m trying for a baby at the age of 40 and I m on citalopram and tramadol. I ve halved the doses of both meds and am displaying withdrawal symptoms. I m thinking about stopping the tramadol cold turkey and slowly reducing my citalopram. What do you think?

Hello and thanks for contacting Healthcare Magic. First of all there is a fairly serious drug interaction between tramadol and citalopram. It is definitely not a good idea to take them together. Tramadol is not recommended in pregnancy.I would definitely suggest stopping the tramadol immediately. You need to talk to your doctor about the citalopram. I would suggest continuing your current dose of that and talking to your doctor about whether or not to stop it during your pregnancy. We always want pregnant women to be on the least amount of medication possible but sometimes the risk of depression off medications warrants the use of antidepressants during pregnancy. You and your doctor must make that decision. Good luck with your pregnancy.
