Sharp Nerve Pinching Pain In Both Hands. Unable To Use Hands When It Happens. Relief With Cold Packs
I have a sharp nerve pinching pain that happens in both hands. It seems to start in my wrist and shoots down my baby finger. I can't use my hand when this happens. Sometimes the pain only last for a couple hours, sometimes all day. Cold packs bring the only relief. I do not have numbness or tingling but no strength in my hand when it's happening. Hurts so bad I can't hold anything. I'm 51 yrs. old. Any ideas?
Shooting pain in the fingers and loss of strengh (motor power) in the hand indicates some issues with the supplying nerves. The problem could be most propably due to a nerve compression, which may be in the cervical spine, axilla , at the level of elbow or in the wrist joint.
An MRI scan of the cervical spine (neck) and Nerve conduction studies are needed to establish the correct diagnosis.
I suggest you to consult a Neurophysician for a detailed examination and further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
