Shin Injury, Swelling, Fluid Behind Skin, Sore To Touch, Swelling. Suggestion?

Hi Dr.,

I feel yesterday and hit my shin on the side of the sidewalk and it swelled in a very large area as if there was a lot of fluid behind the skin. It is sore to touch, but I can walk fine and it looked and felt a lot better this morning one day later. Now as I am looking at it after work it has swollen very big again...I only iced this morning and took advil at 7:00 and again at noon. Any suggestions for me? My doctor is not in today.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for posting your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury. It is better to have an xray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to get it evaluated soon. Meanwhile beside icing and taking advil, elevate the limb and rest well.
Hope this will helps you.
