Should I Be Concerned About The Feeling Like Something Is Stuck In My Chest?

Hi, I think I swallowed a piece of plastic from a take out container that was broke. I tried to cough it up, I did get a piece out, but now I have a sensation that I have something stuck in my chest/esophagus. I can eat and drink. How concerned should i be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I have read your query & realized your concern.
The sticky feeling you have in your chest/esophagus can be-
- An abrasion/mild inflammation caused while you swallowed/tried to cough out the plastic piece. Take bland, non irritant diet. Cold milk would make you comfortable. Suck antacid pill like Gelusil- the problem should resolve in 3-5 days.
- It may just a psychological feeling -which will go with above management within 2 days.
- Or may be a small piece has gone down. Small piece would desend down & passed out in a couple of days.
* in case the symptoms get aggrevated/ do not go within 5 days, you should consult a gastroenterologist for investigations( endoscopy) & treatment.
Thanks
