Should I Be Worried About Child's Prolonged Fever?
Hi, My daughter she's 5yrs has been running a fever since Friday. I got her into the DR on Monday and unfortunately they said it was a virus and couldn't do much for her. Her fever went away on Monday and is back again. I have been giving her Tylenol and Ibruprofen for the fever she's still running. She has a horrible cough, and a very runny/stuffy nose. I am also giving her a cold and cough medicine. I give her the meds every 4 to 6 hours, but feel like its too much. The fever wont go down. And over the counter cough and cold has not worked well. I have the humidifier on, and tried a warm steamy shower. Should I be worried that she's had the fever for so many days? What if its pneumonia, and what would be the warning signs as to when I should get her to the ER? Thank-you -Jessica
Thanks for the question. Yes since fever is prolonged and other symptoms have not been reduced we must get her checked for chest infections. Kindly see if she has rapid breathing movements, refusal to eat, bluish discoloration of mouth. She requires antibiotics and chest assessment also an x ray.
