Should I Be Worried After Taking Azithromycin For Severe Cough?

have had a bad cough for three weeks now, just got off of Azithromycin 250 mg (2 tablets a day) for 7 days, when to the doctor yesterday and she put me on Methylprednisolone 4mg (6 tablets for the first day then, 5 second, 4 third, 3fourth, 2fifth and then just 1 on the last day) I am worried about this medicine due to reading some of the concerns. being on it for about 6 days do i need to worry about the concerns as much? I am waking up coughing in the morning and having a hard time to breath till I calm down the coughing, she also gave me an inhauler to use as well. just very concerned about the Methylprednisolone and if it is necessary to take.

Hello
As you mentioned and to history of illness mentioned in the query it seems you are having asthmatic allergic bronchitis ( this is my opinion and according to experience I can say that you are having allergy ).
Azithromycin is an antibiotics macrolide and only effective in bacterial infection.
Your doctor prescribed methylprednisolone in tappers form .
When such patient visit my clinic I only advise them to take montelukast+bambuterol one or two tablet in a day and patient respond at once .
If cough is very severe I also advise them to take dextromethophan+ chlopheniramine maleate+ guiaphensesin cough syrup 2 TSF twice in day.
Hot coffee and steam inhalation also provide instant relief.
Hope this will help you.
Alternatively consult another physician and get his opinion.
Good luck.
