Should I Be Worried For The Blood Results All Normal Except RDW And ALT Above Average And Taking Levothrixine, Hydrochlorothiazide And Prilosec?

Not feeling well, Dr ordered a full fasting blood test. All came back in normal range except RDW 16.3, ALT 39, both over the average. Last year ALT was elevated, I avoided alcohol, aspirin etc, retested a month later ALT was fine. I do drink 6-8 drinks per week, Holidays, Birthdays, probably more than normal. I tale Levothyroxine .125 MG, Losartin 100mg, hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day. I take Prilosec every morning and try to remember/fit in taking vitamins a couple times a week. I am 49, 5 2 and 207 # s. I don t have insurance and see a Nurse Practitioner at a clinic. Should I be worried about these readings?

Hi. I have gone through your question. Your problem is related to your alcohol intake. None of these medications cause raised ALT or increased RDW. Your increased alcohol intake is causing a rise in your liver enzymes as alcohol by-products are metabolized in the liver causing damage to it thus causing a rise in liver enzymes (ALT). Increased RDW is due to anaemia (reduced hemoglobin) in your blood. You need to improve your diet. Include meat, liver and fresh green vegetables. This will reimburse your vitamin deficiency and lower your RDW , improve your anaemia and energy levels.
Try to reduce your alcohol intake to 5 drinks of beer per week

I hope this information helps you.
