Can methylpredisolone cause a negative ANA blood test? I am a 32 year old female. I have chronic sinusitis and get bronchitis often. I also have mild arthritis in my neck and a long history of joint pain in knees, elbows and hips. I was recently put on methylprednisolone with bactrim to treat a bronchitis episode. After being on the medicines for 2 days I developed a red rash across my cheeks and it was also warm to the touch. No other rash developed. I also have a history of breaking out in hives for no reason, I have no allergies, except a sensitivities to some medicines. Ammoxicilin, wellbutrin, ACE inhibitors and kefflex are the meds I am allergic to. My doctor told me the rash on my face looked like the rash consistent with Lupus and did blood work on my second day of the antibiotic and steroid medications. My ESR was 78, CRP was 34.7 and ANA was negative. Can the medicines I was taking affect an ANA test result?
