Long term use may cause bone weakness. Taking calcium and vitamin D supplements may be helpful.

Should I Continue With Dilantin And Phenobarbital For Seizures?
Hi, Thank you for posting your query. I have noted your diagnosis and current medications. Anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) are required lifelong in some cases to prevent seizures. Both dialntin (phenytoin) and phenobarbital are good AEDs and are generally safe. Long term use may cause bone weakness. Taking calcium and vitamin D supplements may be helpful.
