Should I Discontinue Taking Solid Foods While On Medication For Diverticulitis While Experiencing Bloating And Stomach Ache?

Hi, Finished antibiotic regime for Diverticulitis approx 12 days ago. Was feeling great and started to add back in small amounts of solid food. Last night, stomach felt bloated and ached...not the same ache as with Diverticulitis. Still today not feeling great. Is this something to worry about, or should I back off solid foods again and try liquid diet for a couple days?

Hi,

It's possible that your symptoms may be related to your recent episode of diverticulitis or your antibiotic regimen. However, it's also possible that you may be experiencing some digestive upset due to reintroducing solid foods too quickly.

If you're experiencing bloating and abdominal discomfort, it may be helpful to temporarily switch back to a liquid or low-fiber diet to give your digestive system a chance to rest and recover. You can gradually reintroduce solid foods as tolerated. It's also important to make sure you're staying well hydrated and getting enough rest. Avoiding foods that are known to cause gas, such as beans, broccoli, and cabbage, may also be helpful.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you develop new symptoms such as fever or severe pain, it's important to contact your healthcare provider. They may want to perform additional tests or adjust your treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
