Should I Opt For A Surgery To Cure Hammer Toe At 82 Years Of Age?

I AM 82 YEARS OLD. HAVE A HAMMER TOE AND AM THINKING ABOUT HAVING IF REPAIRED. ONLY FOR LOOKS AS IT REALLY DOES NOT GIVE ME PAIN UNLESS I WEAR CLOSED IN SHOES. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT I JUST CONTINUE TO WEAR SANDLES AND FORGET THE SURGERY. YOUR OPINION, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

In my opinion, having the hammer toe repaired if it is not causing any problems is not worth the risk. Even minor surgeries have risk attached to them, such as infection, pain, poor healing, reactions to medicine, and even blood clots. People your age are also at more increased risk for complications than younger people. You need to weigh these risks against any benefit you might have getting the surgery. Hope this answers your query.
