Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 81 years old and have just been around my son and grandson who are on their 3rd day of antibiotics due to another family member having been diagnosed with pertussis (child, 8 yrs. old). All of their family members are on the 5-day antibiotic regimen and I am wondering if I should also ask my doctor about taking antibiotics. I have a pacemaker and ongoing heart problems. Thank you.
Although the rate of infection decreases considerable after the start of antibiotc therapy but as you have co-morbid conditions so i would suggest you to consult your physician for prophylactic treatment.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. Wishing you good health.
