Should Valprid Be Continued?

MY FATHER IS 72 YEARS OLD. HE HAD HEAD INJURY IN FEBRUARY 2009 AND BILATERAL BRAIN SURGERY WAS PERFORMED ..NUEROLOGISTS HAVE PRESCRIBED VALPRID CR 300 SINCE PAST TWO YEARS HE IS TAKING THIS TWO TIMES A DAY.CAN WE DISCONTINUE THIS AS I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS. HE IS NORMAL IN MOST RESPECTS

Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

Valproic acid is given after head trauma in order to prevent seizures, which are very common after head trauma. Still, if he has never experienced any fit, or has two years free of seizures, you can stop taking it.

BUT, you should talk to your GP before this decision. It is very important.
