Should A Doctor Be Consulted For Foot Pain Caused By Stepping On A Pin?

My 5 year old grandson stepped on a straight pin and it went into his foot by about an inch, I think at an angle. It hurts him and is red. He is up to date on his tetanus shot. We put Neosporin and a band aid on the area. He does not want to walk on it. This happened this afternoon. Should he see a dr or wait and see how it
