Should Anti-histamine Medicine Be Given For A Month For Child With Atopic Dermatitis?
Hi doctor. My child-9 months has been diagnozed with Atopic dermatitis. As the rashes were bad, My doctorasked me to give a short course of steroid (Eumosome) application for 5 days and anti histamine (Alaspan - 5ml daily)for a month. After 5 days of the treatment, the rashes had gone so i stopped both. It's been two days after and I see that his cheeks are turning red and he has started scratching is head a little at night. Should I continue the anti histamine for a month ? Will it have negative effect on my baby /
Thanks for the question. Atopic dermatitis needs to be controlled and a month treatment is many a times required. Prescribed medications are fine and do not stop them. Also use ample amount of emollients on the skin all over body . It keeps skin hydrated and reduces itch. Antihistaminics can be used over a month for this condition.
