Should Dental Space Maintainer Be Retained In A Child With Baby Molars?

My 9 year old daughter had some teeth extracted. The dentist put in a fixed bilaterial space maintainer. Her teeth have now erupted but he is recommending the space maintainer stay in until her two molars come in. Her baby molars are still there. I am confused why she still needs to keep the spacer in!?!?

Hello, Welcome Thanks for consulting HCM,
I have gone through your query, as you have mentioned that your child is having space maintainer, dont worry , see what happend is space maintainer is given in childrens to maintain proper space if childs primary tooth is extracted early , or Preshedding of Primary teeth before eruption of Permanent tooth ,
If your dentist has given space maintainer than it can be due to premolars or 2 nd molar permanent are not erupted, not to worry go to dentist for regular check up, and wait for some time until al permanent teeth comes in oral cavity,
Hope this will help you.
Wish you good health
