Should Half The Amount Of Water Mentioned In The Usage Directions Be Taken If Half Bottle Of Magnesium Citrate Is Taken?

I have been told by my doctor to take magnesium citrate. He told me to take 1/2 bottle (5 oz.). The bottle directions say to drink an 8 oz. glass of water (not sure if before or after I take the magnesium). My question is since I am not taking a full 10 oz, should I take less water or not. Thank you.
