Should I Be Concerned About The Delay Of Puberty In Son?

My son is 5'1" tall, 13 year old, weighing 98 lbs and hasn't began recognizeable puberty. He has grown about an 1" in past 30 days. I'm his dad, 6'3 and started at 15. I obviously didn't expect it soon for him. He has no hair in genital area but has several hairs 1- 1 1/2" under his arms. I'm concerned that's not a normal pattern? Should I be concerned?

Hello,

95% of boys can start puberty between the ages of 9 and 14, so we
consider puberty delayed when it has not started by age 14.The most common cause is constitutional delayed(CDP) puberty.

The most common tests to confirm if yor son has CDP ,are testosterone, LH, and FSH first thing in the morning when the levels are usually higher in early puberty.

Most boys with delayed puberty have testosterone levels of less than 40ng/dL

Hope this helps,
Kind regards,
Dr.Mersi
